Oakland is a city of charming and distinctive neighborhoods and Oakland City Center is surrounded by a pleasing variety of them. There’s shopping and dining, a collection of historic mansions and a growing residential community are all just blocks away. Spacious parks and green space are also within easy walking distance.

Preservation Park
Preservation Park is a well-executed re-creation of a Victorian neighborhood. Its 16 historic buildings are set in a park-like setting complete with manicured lawns, charming Victorian park benches and antique street lamps. In addition to its office space, which houses 45 businesses and non-profit organizations, Preservation Park has five rooms available for conferences, classes, meetings, receptions and other events for up to 250 people. The Park has hosted a wide range of events, including trade shows, luncheons, awards dinners and weddings.

Chinatown
Oakland's Chinatown is a thriving cultural and retail center dating back to the 1800s when immigrant gold miners first settled in the vicinity of 8th and Webster streets. Today, the vast selection of Asian and ethnic restaurants makes Chinatown a popular destination for residents and visitors. Chinatown, which sits in the heart of the city between City Center and Jack London Square, is also a thriving shopping hub when it comes to fresh produce, meats, jewelry, clothing, home decor and many other items.

Old Oakland
Visiting Old Oakland is like taking a step back in time. Restored commercial buildings, constructed between 1865 and 1880, have been preserved in their grandeur. Located in the heart of Oakland just a few blocks west of City Center, the buildings in the Old Oakland district now house an art gallery, restaurants, a brewpub, offices and retail stores. During the warm weather months, the streets are roped off and a farmer's market is held weekly.

Jack London Square
At the beginning of the 20th century, renowned author Jack London adopted this lively area as his "stomping grounds." The cabin where London lived during the Yukon Gold Rush in 1897 was moved to Jack London Square in 1970 and stands near the water today as an historic attraction. Today, Jack London's waterfront is a popular destination for shopping, dining and outdoor attractions, such as a weekend farmer's market, estuary kayaking excursions and the Patomic, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Floating White House museum. On sunny days, views of the San Francisco Bay and Oakland skyline are striking.
