Oakland City Center Announces Line Up for Winter/Spring 2011 Free Concert Series

OCC continues efforts to showcase local performers

Oakland, CA…Oakland City Center’s popular noontime free concert series continues in 2011 with a diverse line up of talented musicians ready to rock the Plaza over the lunchtime break. The series gives downtown Oakland workers, neighbors and commuters the chance to take a break from their desks and enjoy a variety of music and cultural events in the lively atmosphere at City Square. Oakland City Center and its management team at CB Richard Ellis are taking the lead in providing culturally diverse artistic performances free of charge for the general public.

All events take place in the City Square plaza outside the 12th Oakland City Center BART station.

Chinese New Year Celebration
Thursday, February 3rd from noon until 1:00 pm
Leung’s White Crane Lion Dancers will ring in the Year of the Rabbit on the Plaza with their energetic and dynamic performance of traditional Lion Dancing. Their intricate routines and percussive sound will hold you speechless and leave you breathless.

Valentine’s Day Celebration
Monday, February 14th from noon until 1:00 pm
Nicholas Bearde’s silky smooth vocal performance and ease on stage before a crowd will set quite the mood on the Plaza for Valentine’s Day. Make a date to catch this concert, you aren’t going to want to miss the supremely gifted Bearde.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
Thursday, March 17th from noon until 1:00 pm
Tipsy House has built a reputation in the Bay Area for their love of and commitment to traditional Irish music. What better a day than St. Patty’s to enjoy this trio as they create a bit of Irish magic on the Plaza.

Spring Swing Celebration
Friday, April 15th from noon until 1:00 pm
Laurent Fourgo and his Ensemble never fail to bring the swing to the Plaza with their energetic and rollicking fun performances. Whether you’re a cool cat or a hot rocker, this performance is guaranteed to put some swing in your spring.
Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Thursday, May 5th from noon until 1:00 pm
Ballet Folklorico Mexicano hits the Plaza for a fiesta of color, movement and rhythm. These amazing dancers will perform traditional Mexican folk dances in celebration of Cinco de Mayo and their proud Mexican heritage.

Stay tuned – Oakland City Center’s free Summer Sounds concert series continues throughout the summer every Wednesday at noon on the Plaza.
