Oakland City Center Announces Downtown Holiday Tree Lighting and Festivities

OAKLAND – CBRE proudly presents the 3rd annual lighting of Oakland City Center’s 2011 Holiday Tree. Join Santa Claus, the Oakland Ballet, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir and a cast of seasonal characters for this spirited holiday tradition. Oakland City Center’s holiday events are fun for the whole family, with live performances from some of Oakland’s favorite musicians, cookie decorating stations, roasted chestnuts and holiday drinks including hot cocoa and spiced cider. The public is also encouraged to spread holiday cheer by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to participate in the BOMA Toy Drive. BOMA volunteers will be present to assist with your donation.

WHEN: Thursday, December 1st, 5-8pm.

WHERE: Oakland City Center Plaza, outside the 12th Street BART Station
The festivities kick off at 5pm, as bassist D Lucca plays your favorite holiday tunes. Bring your camera to capture the magic of family pictures with Santa Claus and his elves. And don’t forget to come hungry, as everyone is invited to roast chestnuts and get creative with our well-loved cookie decorating station (chestnuts, cookies and decorating materials will be provided!). 

At 6pm, all eyes turn to the tree, as we watch the cast of Oakland City Ballet’s Nutcracker in a live sneak peak. As we flip the switch on our grand tree and officially welcome in the holiday season, delight in the celebratory sounds of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir from 6:30-7:30 pm.

The tree lighting ceremony is just one piece of OCC’s holiday celebration. Join us every Wednesday at noon throughout the holiday season for free holiday concerts at the Oakland City Center Plaza stage.
